Humanitarian Resilience

2015-2025

Emergency Response for Rohingya Refugees in Aceh, North Sumatra, and Pekanbaru

Yayasan Geutanyoe, in collaboration with various partners, has been among the first responders addressing the arrival of recent groups of Rohingya refugees seeking sanctuary in Aceh. Between 2015 and 2025, a total of 40 boats carrying 7,622 Rohingya refugees were recorded as having landed in the Aceh region. Having been granted entry by Indonesian authorities and rescued on humanitarian grounds, these refugees receive ongoing emergency response and humanitarian social support from Yayasan Geutanyoe, which also assists the communities surrounding the shelter sites in Aceh, North Sumatra, and Pekanbaru, Indonesia.

2016 & 2018

Humanitarian Response for Victims of the 2016 Pidie Jaya Earthquake and the 2018 Palu, Sulawesi Earthquake

Yayasan Geutanyoe has been actively involved in advocacy efforts for earthquake victims in Pidie Jaya, Aceh (2016) and Palu, Central Sulawesi (2018). During the 2016 Pidie Jaya earthquake, Yayasan Geutanyoe deployed teams directly to the field to provide emergency relief. Their support included the distribution of basic necessities, medical services for the injured, and assistance for displaced residents. Beyond material aid, the foundation also advocated to ensure that survivors received comprehensive attention and support from the government and relevant agencies.

When the earthquake and tsunami struck Palu in 2018, Yayasan Geutanyoe once again stepped in to provide humanitarian support to the victims. In this response, they collaborated with various local and international organizations to ensure that aid reached the most severely affected areas quickly. In addition to logistical assistance, Geutanyoe prioritized psychosocial advocacy, helping survivors—particularly women and children—recover from post-disaster trauma.

Yayasan Geutanyoe’s involvement in these two major events reflects its steadfast commitment to providing ongoing protection and support to disaster-affected communities, both in Aceh and across other regions of Indonesia.

2022

Flood Response in Aceh Tamiang Regency and Langsa City

The Geutanyoe Foundation actively contributed to disaster response efforts following the floods that struck Langsa City and Aceh Tamiang Regency between October and November 2022. Collaborating with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and various other stakeholders, the Foundation rapidly deployed to affected areas to provide direct assistance to flood victims. Aid included the distribution of food, essential supplies, and logistical support for displaced families, particularly in severely affected districts such as Bandar Pusaka, Sekerak, Kota Kualasimpang, and Kejuruan Muda. Beyond emergency relief, the Geutanyoe Foundation places great emphasis on local community empowerment to enhance future disaster preparedness. Through a community-based approach, the Foundation conducts disaster mitigation education and training, specifically targeting residents living in flood-prone areas. Thus, the Geutanyoe Foundation’s role extends beyond the mere distribution of emergency aid; it also strives to build long-term resilience within communities residing in disaster-prone regions.
